September Osmanthus Blossom · Ban Zhao
September arrives with the osmanthus in bloom — delicate, fragrant, and quietly luminous in the early autumn air.
Among the remarkable women of ancient China, Ban Zhao is remembered for her learning, scholarship, and literary achievement. Born into a distinguished scholarly family during the Han dynasty, she became an accomplished writer and historian, contributing to the completion of the Book of Han after the death of her brother Ban Gu.
That quiet depth of learning makes the osmanthus feel especially fitting for her.
Its blossoms are small and never demand attention, yet their fragrance can fill the air. There is something beautiful in that contrast — a gentle presence whose influence reaches far beyond its size.
In this sculptural Liuli wine vessel, pale green petals and leaves gather around a luminous petite cup, touched with tiny soft-yellow blossoms. As light passes through the translucent Liuli, the piece takes on a fresh, almost weightless glow.
Pour in a little wine, and the flower changes again.
A clear spirit keeps it cool and crystalline. A pale golden wine brings warmth to the tiny blossoms. Different light and different pours reveal another quiet expression within the same piece.
Perhaps wisdom can be like fragrance.
It does not need to announce itself loudly to be felt. With time, knowledge, grace, and a thoughtful voice can leave their presence long after the moment has passed.
For learning, for wisdom, and for the quiet confidence that grows from knowing your own mind.
FOR DESIGNERS & INTERIOR STYLING
With its pale green and soft-yellow Liuli and sculptural osmanthus form, this piece brings a fresh, serene presence to residential, hospitality, and curated interior spaces. Its petite scale makes it especially suitable for a bar cart, dining setting, console, bedside table, bookshelf, reading space, hotel interior, hospitality suite, gallery setting, or decorative display.
Natural or ambient light passing through the translucent Liuli reveals subtle shifts of pale green, soft yellow, transparency, and depth throughout the floral form. Its quiet palette pairs naturally with wood, stone, glass, and restrained neutral materials, allowing the piece to move gracefully between functional wine vessel and sculptural decorative object.
THE ART OF LIULI
Created through an intricate lost-wax casting process, each piece begins with its own mold. After the wax is removed and the Liuli undergoes high-temperature forming, the outer mold must be broken away before the piece can be carefully refined, ground, and polished.
One mold. One piece.
COLORS WITHIN THE LIULI
The colors are not painted onto the finished surface.
They are formed within the Liuli during the high-temperature process, becoming part of the material itself. As light passes through different colors and depths of Liuli, subtle variations in transparency and tone reveal the sculptural layers of the osmanthus form.
When wine or a favorite spirit is poured into the petite cup, another layer of color enters the composition. A clear spirit preserves its cool, crystalline quality, while a pale golden wine introduces gentle warmth, drawing attention to the tiny soft-yellow blossoms and creating another quiet expression within the piece.
Because of this process, small variations may appear from piece to piece. Subtle natural bubbles and gentle flowing patterns may also appear within the Liuli. These are characteristic of the making process and contribute to the individual character of each piece, rather than being considered defects.
A LITTLE RITUAL OF YOUR OWN
Pour a little wine. Let the light pass through the flower. Sit with a book, read a few thoughtful pages, listen to music, share a quiet conversation, or simply enjoy a few unhurried minutes of your own.
The vessel may hold a drink, but the moment it creates can hold something more — a pause, a little beauty, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing your own mind.
A blossom for the eyes. A little wine for the soul.
